Born in 1957 in Naivasha, John Mututho rose from humble beginnings to become one of Kenya's most recognized voices in public health and governance. A lifelong teetotaler, he has dedicated his career to protecting Kenyan families from the devastating effects of alcohol and drug abuse and to further this he started JOMEC™ center Nakuru, a world class drug and alcohol treatment center.
With a strong academic foundation in Range Management, Agriculture, and Environmental Economics, Mututho brought technical expertise and passionate advocacy to every role he has held—from civil service to Parliament to the chairmanship of NACADA.

It established clear operating hours for alcohol outlets (5pm-11pm weekdays, 2pm-11pm weekends), introduced licensing requirements, and regulated advertising—fundamentally changing Kenya's drinking culture.
As NACADA Chairman, spearheaded aggressive campaigns against illicit brews and drug abuse. Successfully lobbied for the banning of 19 harmful hookah flavors and pushed for stricter penalties on killer brew peddlers, directly saving lives across the nation.
Through Computers for Schools Kenya (CFSK), facilitated the distribution of over 70,000 computers to educational institutions nationwide. This initiative dramatically improved ICT literacy and learning outcomes for underprivileged students.
Designed shallow pit water harvesting systems implemented by the FAO across Kenya and Ethiopia. These sustainable systems provided critical water access to arid and semi-arid communities, improving agriculture and livelihoods.
As Chairman of the Board of Governors at Naivasha Girls Secondary School for seven years, helped transform the institution into a top-performing school, creating educational opportunities for hundreds of young women.
